“Do you remember, love?  Do you remember how you and I built our house?  How we lived, loved, fought, and laughed together?  Do you remember the flowers we planted, the vegetables, the trees, our pup in the garden?”

I don’t show her pictures of the place from recent times, just the ones from long ago.

Her left hand caresses the photo-album.  Looking at the pictures, then, up at me, lips trembling, she whispers, “Who are you?”

She reaches for my arm with her right hand, and her grip tightens.

A tear falls on a photograph.  Whose?

We grow quiet together.

Superstition

If I gave you a rose with thorns
As a token of my love,
Would you say,
“This relationship will
Stagger and fail?”
Or, would you kiss me,
Accept it with love,
And say, “My love loves me
Thorns and all,
And sees my beauty thus!”?

If I stepped out into
A vast pit as I left my house,
Would I say, with sobs
Over my broken leg,
“This symbolizes my
Eternal Fall, I know it does!”
Then, fulfill my Fate
By obliging it? Or,
Would I say, “Someone,
Please, please help!”?

If I stepped under a ladder
And it fell with a crash
And snapped my neck,
Would I say, with fainting breath,
“I knew it!  I knew it!
Never walk under
A goddamned ladder!”?
Or, would I, upon
Recovering
(Miraculously),
Say, “Do away
With all ladders!”?

P.S.  Alas, I had NO inspiration for this one, but I tried, I tried!
Also, the punctuation was problematic.  I think I just invented a new type of punctuation.  See if you can spot what the problem was.

Crocuses
Crocuses, purple and orange and white
Braving the snow and the frosty blight
Tender young sweetlings, but tougher than nails
Give us your strength, for, before you, we pale.

Tulips
Lush and richly soft, and tempting
Like a sensual thing in red,
Inviting poor, unwary souls
To her sweet and scented bed.

Sunflowers
Sucking on sunlight, growing tall
Singing in gold so loud,
Bright young sunflower, show us all
How you stand straight and proud

Roses
Mysterious, romantic and curved
The rose smiles in secret
Her whorled petals like an
Entire universe
Folded in upon itself.
And why focus on thorns?
The way is the sweeter,
If you can get past them.
For, what can be more beautiful
Than just living in beauty?
And beauty is her own
Protection, and not for
Greedy, prying eyes.

White Lotus
The seat of goddesses

The throne of wisdom
With moonlight and
Starlight flooding
Its silken petals
The white lotus floats
Dreamlike upon
A dream-lake,
Gathering perfume
Simply because.
