Birthday Presence

Dog leaping through snow
Chases after flung snow-balls:
Arcs of glee in light.

Massed clouds, snow-pregnant
Swoon against the horizon.
The sunlight glows, fierce.

At once young and old,
The lilac-trees bloomed purple
Last year, when I dreamed.
