Vijaya Sundaram is the Poet Laureate of Medford, Massachusetts (2023-2025). Originally from India, Vijaya Sundaram is a poet, musician, singer-songwriter, and educator. Her work has appeared in the Rising Phoenix Press, the Stardust Review, and TELL Magazine. This is her first collection of poems in print.
In Reverberations, Vijaya Sundaram intertwines life and dreams in her poetry. “I live on the edge of dreams with them. / I live and wait for their stories, / And listen to their heartbeats, / And long to protect them well.” Each poem flows with tenderness and reflection, celebrating love and the passage of time. Her mother, “the constant unchanging sun,” anchors her being, while she holds her father’s memory close. Her poems are full of tenderness and reflection. Reverberations is a lyrical journey through the heart’s landscapes, where the yearly celebration of Vishu, the path of the sun, becomes a meditation on creation and impermanence where Vijaya’s life, too, will one day come full circle, echoing her words: “Alone, you struggle into existence, / Slowly, painfully being made, / By heart, by brain, synapse by synapse— / And in a final high harmonic, blink out.” — Gloria Mindock, editor of Cervená Barva Press, award-winning author of Grief Touched the Sky at Night
