When the voice is too beautiful,
Words fail to carry the weight
Of meaning in the voice.

When the words are too beautiful,
The voice falters and fails,
Unable to carry the weight
Of meaning in the words.

When the spirit glows like a flame,
All missteps are from blindness,
Because the surrounding dark
Is too sudden, too unavoidable.

This thing called life,
This thing called love,
This thing called beauty,
And that thing called death,
They are too heavy
For words to carry them.

But still, we try, and we
Stumble, and stagger,
Limbs cracking, back bent
Across the chasm, because
Somewhere there, beyond our ken,
The song, the meaning, the truth
The nothingness, calls like
Music before birth,
And the music of zero.
