Terrain, and Thirst, and Tilt

A slow stream struggles
Through baked terrain, which awaits
Rain, which never comes.

Hope flows more slowly
The days wing past storm shadows
What will ease this thirst?

Tilting axis here.
What compass can we follow
When the poles reverse?

I’m an empty bowl
In a revolving desert
I await cool rain.

I am empty still.
A bird circles overhead
Silent, unchanging.

Visions from new worlds
Crowd on the periphery
Stop, don’t jostle me!

Let me shimmer here
In this deadly, trembling heat
I have been sucked dry.

I await the night.
I won’t fight the dreams that come
When I sleep awake.

I reflect the sky.
My bowl fills up and ripples
My limits are here.

The fig-tree is dead
The vine seeks sunlight in vain.
The wind blows moon-drops.

Once, there were visions
But rain-curtains blind their light.
Curl up in your shell.

A shell collects life
Quietly calcifies in death
Capture the ocean.

Truth and Ice
Truth and Ice

Ice in the comet
Steals sunlight, mimics fire –
We gaze, wonder-struck.

In the heart of things
There is semblance, or there’s truth.
Eyes make their own world.

Deep in heart-darkness
Truth lies, curled in foetus-form
Reshaping a world.

Comets, eccentric
Elliptical visitors
Are just distractions.

And yet, they carry
Life in the ice, entities
Not yet envisioned.

In the urgent Now
Ice melts, seas rise, winds destroy
Speculations die.

People die like leaves
Drifting downwards in currents
I dream of comets.

Siren
Siren

The moon hangs low, close.
Close to a careening earth,
A gleaming temptress.

A lone mermaid sits.
Songs of heartbreak rise upwards
As waves come closer.

Closer come the waves!
Would that the planet could mend!
Would that sirens called!

I will rise song-wards
I will unfurl my wet wings
And fly to the moon.

Fracture
Fracture

How to write of peace
When a tsunami of rage
Over-swells the brain?

Rage does not flow well.
The waves are jagged and frayed.
Boulders dash below.

It boils over all,
This landmass of me, here, now.
Reduced to rubble.

Inexplicable,
The tsunami flows through
Tectonic fractures.

.It’s what we endure
All of us, the world entire,
Awaiting a shift.

P.S. Don’t worry, friends, it’s just how I feel right now – tired, disgusted by humanity’s failure to be its best, mad at my failure to be at my best when tired. It’ll pass. Everything does. Tomorrow, I’ll be all moonlight and mystery.

Canine puzzlement
Gazes out from deep, brown eyes
Pain forms a question.

My voice in her ears
Words she understands dimly,
Whose intent she knows.

Reassurance grows
Amidst these entangled threads
Perplexed eyes soften.

Love is absolute
Days wheel around her and me,
With her at my heels.

My dog’s trust humbles
I am sworn to keep her safe
Confusion, begone!

We sit side by side
Friends all, gathering bright words
Eating cool night air.

The moon weaves her spell
And our attention wanders
Everything listens.

This is illusion
Togetherness passes on.
Solitude awaits.

Voyage

Voyage

The boat bobs slowly
With no oars and no pilot
Behind lies the shore.

The boat floats darkly
Sun-rays spread across water
Beyond lies a dream.

Water-creatures leap
Bright shoals of fish alongside
Your gaze plummets down.

Down the mazèd deeps,
Into the heart of the Earth
And you hear “Farewell!”

Breath and Nature

To bathe in beauty
Saturating sunlit days,
Amongst trees, is joy.

To rest weary eyes
On shadows on moonlit nights
And breathe, contentment.
