Do I disappoint?
Asks the sunflower of the sun –
Gentle light rains down.

Do I disappoint?
Asks the child of her mother
(Love’s cocoon enfolds).

Do I disappoint?
Asks a dog in mild disgrace –
Grinning tail melts stone.

Curtain lifts with sun:
Fog rises and dissipates
Coffee clears my head.

Gentle words soothe me
Mist of despair vanishes
Thank you for your love.

Sing of winters past
Sing of summer’s scorching scourge –
Fan me into coolth!

Let me sing that sky
And never be extinguished –
And let the rain fall!

Watch those skies flow by
Come, bridge me to remote worlds,
Climb those spirit lights!

Bright lights swing across
Skies so blue and gold and red –
Cut me not from them!

Another blast, and
Another hole torn right through
The fabric of life.

Smoke and fumes and blood
And the rain of tears cannot
Quench the reign of fear.

Please stop, please stop, Oh
All of you who shed such hate,
Please spill mercy here.

Fight the Tide Twice

When the tide comes in
Flooding where you stand and stare –
Fight it, rise and swim!

When the tide goes out,
Dragging, tugging at your feet –
Fight it, dig feet in!

Shelved – Four Senryu

Dark, swirling eddies:
Sorrow, rage, hate, all of these
I set on a shelf.

Open the windows,
Let the cold, waiting heart of
Outer Space have them.

When dark thoughts are fed
To the Hungry Thing that lurks:
See how it explodes!

And all will be cleansed
All will turn to sun and air
Taste them, live anew!

I am but a drop
And I yearn with aching heart
For the deep ocean

Missed Step and Hidden Moon (Four Senryu)

For The Daily Post’s Daily Prompt:  Misstep

Miss, please watch your step!
She makes a misstep, hurtles,
Floating, feather-light.

So easy to see
Now, floating above the earth
So sweet it all was

All the faults, the flaws
Their beauty, his joys, her pain,
Complex chords in songs.

Leaves that float downward
Look too much like autumn tears
The moon hides her face.
