Your Voice

In response to The Daily Post’s Daily Prompt for March 30th, 2016:  Voice

Your Voice

It is your voice that spells out
Home and shelter, and love,
And quiet certainty.
A conduit of beauty and song,
A channel of kindness, your voice
Allows things to flow.

I shall carry your voice
Like a cup of clear water
In the desert, when the desert comes,
Or a glowing flame in the night,
When darkness descends.

I shall hold it near my ear,
To hear better

Cup it near my eyes,
To see better

Pour it into a palm, and
Drink d
eep of its assurance.

I have need of it.
Thank you.

Frivolous Gravity

Frivolous I might be, but I
Revel in, delight in your
Ibsenian seriousness.
Veer here, the world’s
On a collision course with hell, so
Lone traveller, may I join you
One day, soon, now? (I like your mien!)
Ultimate wisdom is fun, but
Sunlight beckons.  Shed gravity, dance!

A Question

Asking questions is inappropriate,
He said.

And I wanted to ask, “Why?”

Another blast, and
Another hole torn right through
The fabric of life.

Smoke and fumes and blood
And the rain of tears cannot
Quench the reign of fear.

Please stop, please stop, Oh
All of you who shed such hate,
Please spill mercy here.

Footstepping Stone

In response to The Daily Post’s Daily Prompt: Footsteps

Footstepping Stone

I step on sand, and my footsteps fade.
I step on water; waves drift away.
I step on air; winds catch my feet
I step on clouds; rain drenches me.

My footsteps lead to strange new spots
I step on rocks, leap over streams
I slip on grass, and keep close watch
For snakes, and sudden ice, unseen.

I follow others, drift from them,
Step on their boot-tracks, turn to go left
Then turn around, head back to the right,
Then walk on down the road not seen.

I wish that I wouldn’t have to roam,
I wish that I didn’t walk alone, with
No thoughts to think, no angst to own,
No dreams to seek on the way back home.

For it’s not easy, and yet things are!
(It’s just more work for my brain and me!)
And a road not seen can always be
A road that can take our footsteps far.

And footsteps light on a road of stone
Will ring like a gong and sing of flight
And freedom’s song will ease the night
Till all my flesh falls off my bones.

Nonsense Limericks

Nonsense Limericks

A doggle while roaming the park
Saw a bird whom he called “Pig-Lark.”
Said the lark to the dog,
I am SO not a hog
And I’m not a big fan of your snark.”

A pig who was roaming at dark
Saw the dog who had teased the lark
Said the pig to the dog
Go and lie in a bog,
And I won’t send for old Noah’s ark.”

The dog was insulted by this
Turned away with an audible hiss
The pig laughed in glee
Threw a mad jamboree
And the Lark flew away with a kiss.

For My Dear Friend – You Know Who You Are
(A Simple Ditty)

My love for my friend.
Is so simple, so right.

My love doesn’t end,
Or fade in daylight.

When I’m blue or gray
And my thoughts go astray,

When I’m down and out
And filled with much doubt,

She’s there by my side
And her love abides.

And when she needs me
I’ll be there, you see.

I’ll be there in sun
In laughter and fun.

I’ll be there in rain,
Again and again.

We’ll let down our guard,
And not try too hard.

We’ll listen and soothe.
Rough edges we’ll smooth.

We’ll sing and we’ll share,
Try not to compare.

We’ll defend each other,
Like sisters or brothers.

When I prop her up
And she does the same,

We’ll drink from one cup,
And share our true names.

White and cold and stark
Snow falls in the glooming dark.
Winter makes his mark.

Blend with ripened things, between
Daytime and our dreams.

Salt and sweat and sun
Summer flowers swoon as one
Ere the day is done.
